There is an event for which I am going to be dressing up as Tonks :P Theme for the event is 'Superheroes and Villains' and there is just no such thing as an easily recognisable female outfit fitting the theme that doesn't require me to wear something incompatible with dancing all night - my options are mostly wigs, pvc, or pleather. So there's a group of us going Harry Potter themed, and I grabbed Tonks. I have a trenchcoat I can pretend is the right shape with the right collar, whether I choose the black coat or the maroon coat outfit, and the rest is fairly easy - I need to acquire danceable combat boots and fingerless bike gloves, but those should be fairly easy. But the hair, oh the hair...

So I've been searching for hair stuff. The Manic Panic DyeHard stuff in Electric Flamingo would do what I want, but I find myself with a yearning for hypercolour hair... So I turn to my friendslist. It should be available in a gel or similar, but I can't find a commercially available product, just the patents. And I'm not confident mixing the stuff from what pigments I have seen, as they seem to need high temperatures to activate the hypercolourness.

I just want to walk into the venue and have my hair change colour :P If it's available, that is - the Manic Panic Dyehard stuff is so I'll order some in case I can't find hypercolour stuff (also so I can consult with my hairdresser on the best things I can do to support my hair under the gel).

Also, feel free to post your favourite links to pictures, I'm having issues finding one with enough detail of the pants (in either costume, maroon or black coat) to fake them, and I'm going to need to as that coat WILL be coming off while dancing ... :P

Bastard apparently vaguely mentioned to his mother that he was looking at getting a dishwasher. Apparently his mother suggested that we redesign the entire kitchen while we're at it, and pulled out several proposed plans. We're nowhere near wanting as much done to the place as she ever suggests (it's so far from cost-effective if we should choose to sell our house that it's not funny), but some rethinking of the base cupboards is in order, unless we want to put the dishwasher in the laundry and buy a new washing machine (a side-loader) to go on top (not enough space otherwise). Bastard had had some thoughts.

Bastard then left me alone with the design software while he went to training.

The design I made in fifteen minutes of thinking and figuring out how to make stuff appear (I spent the most time fiddling with drawer inserts, trying to delete them after I'd seen what they actually looked like) is the best one so far. It has the second-best choice of corner cupboards (which also happen to be more expensive than the first choice) but it has a better use of space and simpler plumbing choices.

The design software we're using is the IKEA one, it's good as a place to start, but there is no way we're going with the options available therein. For one thing, in order to get benches that are as high as we have now (which are the perfect ergonomic height for me, and tolerable for Bastard), we have to have 21cm worth of wasted space underneath, where the cupboards' legs are for the tallest available cupboards. That's another drawer's worth!

Bastard is now fiddling with options some more.
I believe that the purpose of trousers is to hide one's underpants.

That is all.

And while I think of it, does anyone know where I can find decent-sized pieces of vellum? The stuff made from animal skins, not the paper type. I have a friend (who I hope hasn't found my journal yet) who likes doing absolutely gorgeous calligraphy and other artwork (you should see her LOTR map - hand-inked, giant-sized, and legible to the tiniest details) on this medium, and as I shall be going to Canberra for her and [ profile] mabraham's birthday parties the week before Dancemania, vouchers to such a store (if I can't afford a complete hide, which seems likely, as dance shoes may eat my budget...) would be an appreciated gift, together with a catalogue or something *grin*

So if anyone out there in LJ-Land happened to have a line on the stuff, I'd be ever so grateful *innocent blink-blink*

My SO's brother will be visiting us tomorrow. He says that he's itching to do something with his hands around the house, and since he's renting in Sydney, he can't do anything to his home. Ours, however, is fair game. So he and my SO are planning to spend some time chasing channels along the wall for electrical cables (to put in more wall sockets attached to when the electrician next visits) which is a job that entails wearing safety equipment, so I can't participate in any way.

I hate being unable to participate. Particularly when it's because of something as stupid as my being too small for safety equipment to be safe to wear.
