Taking my morning tea break in the middle of mowing the lawns. I had let them overgrow significantly over the last couple of months, so they kinda need mowing. Then there's the weeds in other parts of the garden... Dad suggested just mowing the lot, but the spot he was suggesting that for has nothing like even ground to run the mower over, and my knee is still bunged.

Oh yeah, my knee. I bunged it up in classical 'me' manner.

Last weekend me and Not A Redhead and his girlfriend and kid went up to his shack in Port Broughton with his boat. The forecast rain did not eventuate until we didn't care if it rained anymore. There was fishing, crabbing, attempts at waterskiing (I think my feet need padding to stay in the skis, my ankles aren't strong enough to hold them at the angle to not rip themselves off), scrabble, dominoes, and no internets. Multiple mysterious battery failure, none of it fatal or dangerous, but certainly annoying. One of those batteries was the car battery as we were preparing to leave on Monday to go home.

So we pushstarted the car. I lost traction when it started rolling properly, and I chose to bung my knee up instead of my face. Fortunately I was wearing jeans so there was no gravel in there, but there was one hole several millimetres deep. My knee is still swollen and purple in some spots, but most of the bruising has gone to yellow, and the holes are filling in - I may not even scar, knowing me. I'm supposed to keep off it. I managed until yesterday - before the dance workshops I was definitely showing signs of withdrawal :P

Excess crabs from the crabbing went to various people. Apparently I'm the only person on that expedition who actively likes crabs, and we caught ~30 of legal size. Not A Redhead killed them and cut them in half, and I did the rest of the cleaning. There was a BBQ before class on Monday, so we donated crabs to that, I pinched some for my parents, Dance Teacher One grabbed a few, as did the gentleman cooking the BBQ. My Dad had this to say about the crabs (and the fillet and a half of snook that was left over from the fishes I caught and Not A Redhead cooked on Sunday), in a message titled 'Crabby Dad':

"Thanks for the crabs.  They were terrific.

Dollop of butter.  Chopped up onion.  Glug of white wine for the cook and one for the pot.  Three egg tomatoes.  Leftover tomatoes from yesterday’s salad.  Leftover cherry tomatoes and capsicum from yesterday’s hors d’oeuvre.  Dash of chilli sauce.  Rats:  it was a new bottle and the dash was a dollop – c’est la guerre.  Pepper.  Why not some of this fish sauce stuff?  This is dry work:  glug of wine for the cook and one for the pot.  Simmer.  Glug of wine for the cook.  Throw the crabs into the pot and heat them with steam.  At last minute, throw in some tarragon, chopped oregano and parsley, then pour into our big candle heated dish (dish and its lid pre-heated in oven) and throw in some more parsley and oregano to garnish.

Serve with bread, butter and a towel draped down one’s front.

Still some sauce left?  Throw the snook in and steam on hot plate for a bit.

Clean up after Mum!

Love, Dad"

Must go do more mowing before Bastard gets home. His Dad is taking him to some home improvement show or something at the Showgrounds. I just hope that they check this time that stuff is OK with me first before Bastard's Dad goes ahead and does whatever Bastard said 'yeah whatever' to.

I achieved a freestyled Halfway Round The World after class last night (together with Not-A-Redhead). I am INVINCIBLE!!

Also, Teacher One and Teacher Two competed in a competition held by a company in Sydney and came second in their Freestyle category. They stated that they were very very happy with second, as coming first would have meant being shoved up into the next higher category to compete against all their idols.

Just as a theoretical thingy, if I happened to be in Mebourne on Saturday, December 27th, would there be people available who I would want to have lunch with?

Theoretically...

Err...

Household negotiations are ongoing. And I need more data. Please?

We can has hail. Fortunately, I moved all the washing further in under the verandah this morning before I left for work, as it was pouring with rain (went out to check nothing had fallen over as it was quite windy overnight, at intervals). Failed to spray (yay home made spray! It can sit and stew and become more potent while I wait for a dry day) the aphids that have started to camp on my roses before I left for work since spraying in the rain is an exercise in futility.

Still craving meat and meat products after ten days of eating significantly more than I usually can stomach. It's been a while - pretty close to a year since I last craved meat, IIRC.

Also, apparently I was whimpering in my sleep last night. I have not been told whether this woke Bastard up, or if he had not yet made it to bed. Am currently sleeping on three pillows, as this makes it easier to breathe, which makes it easier to sleep.

Ah yes: definitely a sinus infection. Went in to see my GP yesterday morning, and she asked the usual questions: how long, did it start with a cold, do your sinuses hurt? To the last question I had to answer no, being truthful, and she promptly poked them and made me squeak with teh hurty. I has antibiotics. Blood pressure a little higher than last time, at 93/60 and 67 BPM. Wandered past my parents' house after the appointment, dropped off some of the produce from my garden, picked some violets, and got taken to work.

The GP said I should have a couple of days off of work. But since I had a half day and it's about to be weekend, I feel OK about ignoring that advice.

Must remember to send my mother the "Gold, Frankincense and Purr" lolcat. It's is sitting on my tabs at home just waiting for Bastard to accidentally forget and close my browser and lose the tabs.

Back home, after a lovely trip. Acquired what I think is a sinus infection while I was away. This, combined with my horrible habit of forgetting when I'm excited, means that I have practically no voice right now.

Also acquired significant blistering on both little toes (one has lost all the skin, the other hasn't shredded yet), and lost half a stone (a touch over 3kg - last night when I got home I was a touch under 8 stone (111.5 lb or 50.5kg), which explains why my dance pants were a little baggy yesterday on the plane). Routine went fabulously, I had many compliments, I pulled off ganchos (a tango-styling thing) in a lady play, and did I mention the compliments? I'm very happy, the teaching people who were there over the weekend (people I respect like whoa) complimented things like my balance and responsiveness to lead, the important stuff - and the former is something I've just not ever had much of, traditionally. My inner ears had to sensitise before they could desensitise to the spins. Everyone complimented the timing, and the routine itself. We put me and Baby Giant front and centre because the other two couples were more even in height and height difference (I'm the shortest of us all, and Baby Giant is the tallest and largest). Also, I'm the only redhead (well, at the moment I am) in a sea of dark blonde and medium to light brown hair (although I think one of the gentlemen is currently brunet).

Am thinking vaguely of never flying again. The plane back was delayed by an hour. Wasn't cancelled this time, though, which was good.

Still buzzing, although not as much as previous years, for which I blame the sinuses. There may or may not be video, but there will certainly be photos at some point. Including one of me pointing directly at the video camera next to the camera taking the photo (pose position involved pointing at the audience) :D

Also a slight wtf: Have been emailed by responsible persons regarding the accommodation for the bridge stuff early this month. Because they think I didn't pay my share, for some reason. My bank account says otherwise, sadly. I don't know if this is something wierd or what, but I am pretty sure I checked that no one owed anything before I checked us out.

It's certainly interesting. I don't know if they're only getting to me now because I haven't been in to the club since and they expected to waylay me there, or if THEY just got hit up by the apartment, or if they've just failed to be organised.

Well, there's nothing I can do about it until I get home on Sunday, so I'll just laugh happily at the silliness of it all and start to choose an outfit appropriate to dancing tonight :D

I am fast coming to the realisation that, as a game, bridge is fucking hilarious. Absolutely hilarious. Now, there are many people who will disagree with me, but right now the whole concept is ridiculously funny.

Mind you, so are an irritatingly large number of things. Right now, I am one huge bundle of laughter at this world, and I'm not exactly sure why. No, it's not the drugs, there are no new drugs.

There are a small series of articles running around in my head right now; What I've been able to articulate and write down so far seems to indicate that the recurrent theme is Trickster-y-ness and Y So Srs? And a few bits of interesting psychology.

I'm so glad I'm getting the chance to relax and rest and have Time.

Finished off [livejournal.com profile] mabraham's birthday present last night. There will be pics of teh craftyness when he's got it. I don't actually expect him to read this before he gets it, but just in case, I shan't say any more except to say that it looks a lot better than I expected, it is larger than I anticipated when planning it (but should have figured that, given that it's really hard to do the embroidery I planned in the layout I planned on the fabric I planned with the thickness of embroidery thread I used (three strands, could have done fewer, but I like the thick lines) any smaller), and the seam at the top is uneven, but it's fur so you can't tell unless you're looking.

Dancing continues apace. We're working heavily on the over-rotation issue I have coming out of all the spins in the routine. Also, I have too much momentum getting up into the Supergirl aerial, and I need to fix that because it feels like I'll overbalance down Baby Giant's back. Getting the kicks at the right angle, though, and fixed most of the hand placement issues that didn't involve over-rotation. Which is good. We're at performance standard, although not perfect.

OK, I've gone back 400 posts, and I'm tired. Anything that happened between last Saturday and Thursday, I've probably missed. I've got a few tabs open that I'll look at when I have time. Goodnight peoples. Sleep well.

I is home after week's bridge on Gold Coast. I is also pooped, and throats is achy (not singing parts of throat, swallowing parts of throat). Lost two kilos. Succeeded in both aims for this tournament - have fun, not come last.

Went to dance class up there on Tuesday night and had really really good time.

Will finish coffee shortly and be more coherent.

Is slightly disoriented by the lack of ubiquitous wave noises.

In the airport waiting for my flight. The original flight was cancelled for some reason, and my replacement flight (via Sydney instead of direct) is running late. I'm not happy, in fact I'm darn upset. I'd arranged to meet my sister for dinner, since I haven't seen her since Christmas, and the original flight would have got me into Brisbane about an hour from now. I think. Anyway, the replacement flight gets me there at 8:25pm (or it's scheduled to, anyway), which is a bit too late for dinner.

It's an auspicious start to what I fully expect to be a clusterfuck of a bridge week. We're in a tea of five and we've been informed that the pair who have never played an entire week-long event, AFAIK, will be doing so. Every session. Which, while it means I get 1/3 sessions off, is going to be very bad for them and their play.

I worked it out today.

If the conditions of this last year of mortgage repayments continue - that is, no pay increases, interest rate increases, or spending habit changes - Bastard and I will have paid our mortgage out in just over three more years. That's seven and a quarter years after we bought it, even with our lack of a spending plan for the first couple of years.

Some photos from this weekend's dance championships (to which I didn't go) highlighting two of my teachers:

In position to start a Backhander of some kind
Posing for the judges before the final of the Advanced Freestyle
She's about to get bounced in a drop position - I know this move, they've practised it a lot to get it smooth and safe; at full extension, she'll be parallel to the ground, but they'll bounce off of the extension point and go straight into something else

And these guys are coming to Adelaide to teach a set of workshops in five and a half weeks and I'm so very very excited. Allan won both first and second in the routines, I'm told, although I couldn't tell you whether his routine with Holly (pic from DWAS, I believe, she's dancing with a teacher from somewhere else which datapoint I can't remember right now), or this routine did better. The official results aren't up yet, AFAIK.

Over the weekend I sorted my Amazon.com wishlist into several wishlists which will be easier for my family to print out and take into shops. It had reached 33 pages, and that's just the public one that my family have access to. Now there is a fiction, non-fiction, music, DVD & video, household stuff and toys (which includes various figurines, a couple of boardgames, brewing gear, an Eee, and kitchengear), and an unsorted list. I'm considering a separate category for comics, graphic novels, and artbooks. Which they are extremely unlikely to choose to purchase on my behalf, but of which there are enough that they can have a category.

Oh, and I helped teach Intermediate at dance class last night (in subsidiary role) - I've had feedback from several people saying I did well, especially having had neither preparation nor warning.

Spent some time horrifying my GP yesterday. Sitting down, BP was 88/52, 61 BPM, standing up 110/63, 69 BPM. But thanks to the excessive normality of my ultrasounds, I don't have to go on any more prescribed thingies, so I'm happy. No lifetime of daily antibiotics, no extra pills of any kind. She did suggest that getting lucky more often would be a good thing XD

Dream last night. Vampires again. Mostly in the background, except for the hunting, and the Dog Statuette That Would Not Smash (I'm pretty sure it was a pug, with an attached humanoid, and it was very definitely annoying my character, who stopped in her exploration of the mansion wherein the vampires resided to endeavour to destroy it).

I've just received the email regarding team jackets for the state bridge teams. We'll be presented with them in a week and a half. Half of me has bet the other half that mine will be four sizes too big - the second half believes it'll be six, maybe eight. If they get one the right size, it'll be a miracle - one year they got me one (size small) which, if the arms had been two inches longer, would have fitted Bastard who is over a foot taller than me and weighs twice as much. That was the only one in colours I liked, too.
