My darling SO borrowed some books from a library this last fortnight. Amongst the offerings were a trilogy of books (names unremembered) which were very very good. I managed to finish them despite the unreadability (for me) of the Scottish dialect that the author had most of her human characters speaking. It may be Irish, I'm not very good with distinguishing them on the page. Whichever it is, the dialogue was irritatingly slow to read, yet I still finished the books instead of giving up by the end of the first chapter. There were points at which I feared there were going to end up being too many threads/lives/characters to follow, yet every time, things got simplified so that I could follow without trying to remember what's supposedly happening elsewhere at the same time.
If I can remember what the books are called, I'll be able to give further review. All the proper cliches were dealt with quite well IMO.
