Dropped some things off at the dry cleaners/altering & repairing tailor place which is right next to a bus stop on the route I take in to work every morning. Was duly amused to find that the only reason that getting the dress I wore to Spiral Dance MidWinter last weekend drycleaned didn't cost more than the dress itself was because I took advantage of the drycleaners' "Pay up front, get 15% off".

It was an op-shop find. An OMG just the fabric for this dress would cost more than this and it fits me perfectly op-shop find.

And the drycleaning and alterations I ordered will be ready to pick up late Friday. I did not ask for the express service, either. I like this drycleaners.

Op shop clothing is Teh Mega! Even when I was living in London and overflowing with disposable cash income, I still shopped at charity shops at least half the time. Most of the small amount of clothing I brought with me is secondhand stuff, and yes, the fabrics are far nicer and longer-wearing than most of what one can find new in the shops these days. Like the floor-length wine-coloured cotton velvet skirt I was wearing the other day, the one that had everyone going "Ooh, gorgeous, where'd you get it?", and the funky retro silver fake-fur jacket that I bought last year at Episode for $10 on a sale day, and the Gothopaedic ankle boots that are older than most of my friends, and are still the best distance-walking footwear I own...

Heh, I recently got my black silk brocade Mandarin jacket drycleaned for $3.50 - fifty cents less than I paid for it :-)
