I am now an under-25 champion at bridge. *do the dance of victory* According to the captains of opposing teams, I played brilliantly all week. One of these captains was severely miffed during the Victory Dinner that I had my name on yet another trophy that he didn't... Said trophy has typos that have not been fixed yet. I particularly like the matching teams for 2001 on the winners and runners-up trophy. Apparently the same six players got both titles.

Next job is to make the people doing the engraving on the honours boards at my local bridge club to put a 'Miss' in front of my name this time, instead of a 'Ms' which is not accurate. And while they're at it, can they modify the other instances?

Just before I left for Melbourne, I finished all the sugar in the sugar bowl. Because my SO doesn't use it, I left it out for cleaning instead of refilling it immediately. While I was away, my SO cleaned it, and then filled it with white sugar instead of the raw sugar I prefer. Admittedly, he probably couldn't find the raw sugar, as it is tucked away in the cupboard with 'Freya's fun things to put in stuff' where it is convenient instead of in the pantry. My coffee tastes different this morning. But at least he filled it with some kind of sweetness.

It seems strange that someone could be wearing a dressing-gown to play all week, and the only people who noticed on their own (didn't have to be told) were other under-25s.

It seems strange that we all accept the winning of the 'Victory Dinner Hurling Award' - an unofficial under-25 'award' given to the team with the first person to throw up at the Victory Dinner - could be given as a result of a 16 year old drinking heavily prior to the dinner and no-one blinks an eye.

It seems strange that the only semi-attractive piece of 'representative clothing' that was given to any of the players by their respective state bodies was something organised by the players themselves. Things made of polar fleece featured heavily this year. One of my teammates was wearing his jacket from a couple of years ago in preference to this years, and it was a definite improvement.

The Victorian Bridge Association has play-screens that rock! Not rock as in rock back and forth, because that would be a pain. They're solid, heavy, thick, well constructed screens with a rod in the bottom of the curtain so that it can be raised and lowered easily and efficiently. They're not ugly and hideous to use like ours. I'm hoping to persuade enough people that we need better screens before the ANC is in Adelaide in two years time (my last year in the under-25s and the nationals are in my hometown...)

In other news...

I like being home. I really really like it. I like the bad bits, and I like the good bits, and I like the indifferent bits, because I am home.

Shortly I shall start unpacking properly... No, really... There isn't that much to do, it's just that it involves hanging out the load of washing already in the machine, so I can put another one in, and therefore going outside into the bright sunlight...
