Yesterday on my way home from work, I wandered through the organic food store across the road, as I usually do. Whilst staring around wondering what I was doing there, I noticed that they had guavas. Guavas! Not pineapple guavas (otherwise known as feijoas) which grow very well here with no maintenance whatsoever and are hated by people who haven't been told that they're only ripe when they fall off of the tree - my mum makes those into jam, jelly, and other yummy things. But plain guavas which I have not seen for many many years - and at $4.50kg! I bought five ripe ones and four of them are still happily smelling out the house.
I really like that organic store. They got Cox Pippins, a variety of apple which happens to be my mum's favourite, in the week of Mother's day, and other hard to get 'heirloom' varieties of food are found regularly when in season.
