Today there were Pacific Black Ducks when I got off the bus, right next to the cemetary in the Western Parklands. One male, one female, and one juvenile of almost-adult size. I got phone-photos of the female and juvenile, who were sticking close together, we'll see how they turn out.

Every year a pair of those will turn up in my swimming pool in spring. Of course Juno the Whippet gets quite affronted at these interlopers and dashes around the pool telling 'em loudly that they should sod off right now kthxbye. Generally the ducks stick it out for a few days before they get tired of being unable to land anywhere but in the pool without being chased off by a cranky whippet, and so they head off elsewhere to find a more promising nesting site.
