And from [livejournal.com profile] penguin2, we have:

1. Why bridge? Oh goody, I've never known of anyone under, well, middle age whom I could ask :-)

Why not bridge? It's brain-work, almost infinitely variable when you take opponent's personalities into account, and, well, most of my extended family plays bridge or other card games fairly regularly. Some of the cousins and my sister don't. It's an extended group of people with whom I have something in common. I could travel the world staying with bridge-players. Some of my bridge-playing friends have (when not being sent due to getting into national teams).

2. How do you deal, emotionally, with your illness/allergies/etc.? Do you accept them as part of your life in a forever way, or do you daydream of a possible time when you'll enjoy extended good health?

I cope. I intend to educate the world about the wrongness of having perfumed everything, eating only every 8 hours, and feeding me sugar. I dream of there being a year (12 month span of time) wherein I only go to the doctor for my annual checkup. I dream of a world wherein I can make those checkups biannual.

Maybe one day...

3. Fandoms: in your opinion, anathema, heaven-on-earth, or...?

Other people. I do not apply the word to myself in any way, because I don't really know what it means. It might be appropriate to apply it to things. It's just a word to me.

4. Would you ever consider fostering?

As in me taking care of a child? Me? I have thought about what it would entail, and my conclusion is that it isn't likely to happen in this lifetime. A foster carer needs to provide a stable, secure environment in which to care for the child(ren). I do not believe that I can, in any foreseeable permutation of the next 20 years or more, provide such an environment. So I have considered it, but consider it a task I am unlikely to be stable and well enough to take on.

5. What do you think of Adelaide, as compared to any other cities (anywhere) you've visited?

Small. Flat. Harder to get lost in. Dry. Crappy drivers. Low standards of car maintenance.

Cities I've visited (how big does a town have to be before it is a city?): Adelaide (duh), Brisbane (once or twice), Sydney (a few times), Canberra (around a dozen times, bridge trips many Januarys), Melbourne (about half a dozen times), Wellington (twice, I say, since I can't remember which airport we used either trip), Auckland (as for Wellington), any other town in New Zealand that qualifies for city status (either once or twice depending on where and which trip).
